Position Overview

The Preschool Lead Teacher provides a caring, safe, and well-managed environment for children to participate in learning activities and imaginative play. The teacher instructs in basic skills such as color, shape, number, and letter recognition, as well as social skills. The Lead Teacher establishes clear objectives for all lessons, prepares, organizes, and leads instruction in all activities. The Lead Teacher evaluates children's academic performance and social development and communicates progress to parents and guardians. Ensuring enforcement of district policies, serving meals and snacks according to nutritional guidelines, and performing administrative duties such as staff meetings, professional development, and inventory management are also key responsibilities.

Essential Functions

1. Plans, develops, and implements age-appropriate curriculum.
2. Creates and delivers daily lesson plans.
3. Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson activities to reinforce learning concepts and support reaching academic goals.
4. Adapts classroom activities and materials to support classroom goals.
5. Assists with lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities, and enforces cleanup routines.
6. Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, and records for safety and compliance.
7. Prepares instructional materials such as posters, copies, and newsletters.
8. Provides a nurturing environment to ensure student comfort and security.
9. Reports observations and incidents related to student behavior and safety.
10. Maintains open communication with parents and encourages parent participation.
11. Supports smooth transitions for children from home to school and between classrooms.
12. Monitors student safety in various settings.
13. Ensures Teacher Assistants are informed and trained on classroom matters.
14. Provides guidance and training to staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Education, Licensure, or Certification

• High School Diploma or GED
• Food Handler’s Card/Certification
• Valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Criminal background check clearance
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• Recent Negative TB test
• Minimum 6 months experience in Early Childcare setting

Background Checks

Travel between campuses as needed; ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds; sitting, standing, kneeling, and concentration required.

Local and in-state travel required.
