St. Alphonsus School is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Full-Time Preschool & Extended Care Assistant to support our licensed preschool program for children ages 2.5 to 5 years old.

This role is ideal for someone who loves working with young children, values early childhood education, and enjoys being part of a faith-based community. The position runs 9:30am-6pm, Monday-Friday when school is in session, with compensation ranging from $25 to $35 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; ECE degree preferred.
• Experience with young children in school/daycare settings preferred.
• Background check and Safe Environment requirements; CPR/First Aid, TB test, food handler, and MERIT account required or must be obtained.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead preschool teacher with age-appropriate activities.
• Supervise children during play, circle time, and classroom activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Support basic needs: handwashing, snack time, and restroom assistance.
• Encourage positive behavior and respectful interactions.
• Assist with classroom setup, transitions, and end-of-day cleanup.
• Collaborate with preschool teacher and staff to ensure a nurturing environment.
• Adhere to policies including health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist the lead preschool teacher in implementing age-appropriate activities that foster social, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Supervise and engage with children during playtime, circle time, and other classroom activities.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Support children with basic needs such as handwashing, snack time, and restroom assistance.
• Encourage positive behavior and model respectful interactions.
• Assist with classroom setup, transitions, and end‑of‑day cleanup.
• Collaborate with the preschool teacher and school staff to ensure a nurturing and structured learning environment.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.
• A patient, warm, and supportive demeanor.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

COMPENSATION

The range for this position is $25-$35/hour. Compensation is determined based on internal equity, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
