Job summary

Neighborhood House Association seeks an Assistant Teacher to support early childhood education within a Head Start program in California. Under supervision, you will assist in instruction, plan development, and family engagement activities, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.

You will work closely with a Site Supervisor and Teacher, ensuring compliance with Head Start standards and confidentiality in documentation. Relevant certifications and experience in ECE are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of appropriate child development theories and practices.
• Administering basic first aid.
• Twelve (12) units of early childhood education/child development including Associate Teacher Permit; fifty (50) days of three or more hours per day experience in an early childhood education setting within two years of application of employment.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ECE/CD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing weekly lesson plans aligned with Head Start curriculum and standards.
• Assist in recruiting families for the program as required by performance standards.
• Help maintain a safe, engaging learning environment for children.
• Assist in screening children and translating assessments into lesson plans.
• Support in creating Individual Education Plans for children with special needs.
• Model daily routines and hygiene practices; assist in meals and classroom cleanliness.
• Assist in home visits and parent/teacher conferences; document essential information.
• Collaborate with Family Service Assistant to meet family needs.
