Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Counselor (Program Aide) to support preschool learning. You will help maintain a nurturing environment, supervise children, assist program leaders with activities, and ensure safety during transitions and meals.

Candidates should be at least 16, willing to obtain CPR/First Aid within 30 days, and capable of teamwork across locations; weekend and evening shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years.
• Must work under supervision of a Program Lead.
• Good character and reputation; background checks required.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to interact well with children and families.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and safety of children at all times, including meals and transitions.
• Assist in preparing and implementing curriculum and activities.
• Engage children in meaningful play, promote exploration and learning.
• Support positive behavior guidance and social skills development.
• Communicate with parents, staff, and YMCA leadership; participate in training.
