YMCA of Portsmouth is seeking a Counselor (Program Aide) to support a nurturing preschool environment. You will help lead activities, supervise children, and ensure safety while promoting curiosity and learning.

Qualifications

• Shall be at least 16 years of age.
• Staff shall work under supervision of a Program Lead.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Background checks and pre-employment requirements.
• Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills for interacting with children.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, actively supervising activities, meals, and transitions.
• Support Activities: Assist in preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
• Child Engagement: Engage children in meaningful play experiences, encouraging exploration and learning.
• Behavior Management: Promote positive behavior and self-regulation through praise and guidance.
• Communication: Communicate with children, parents/guardians, staff, and YMCA leadership.
• Professional Development: Participate in training and staff meetings to enhance skills.
