Job description

Position Overview

The Bilingual Teacher will be responsible for delivering instruction in both English and Spanish, adhering to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidelines for Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) programs. The ideal candidate will understand bilingual education pedagogy, second language acquisition, and culturally responsive teaching practices. They will create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters students' academic growth and language development.

Reporting and Collaboration

This position reports directly to the school principal and functionally to other school administrators and district directors. It involves coordination with teachers, instructional coaches, school psychologists, social workers, support staff, students, guardians, and the community.

Job Function

The Bilingual Teacher will plan and execute standards-aligned lessons in both English and Spanish, provide targeted tutoring, create instructional materials, and conduct assessments to ensure students achieve grade-level proficiency. They will employ diverse instructional strategies tailored to students' English proficiency levels, utilizing assessments like ACCESS for ELLs to inform instruction and communicate progress with stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and support ELL students, maximizing resources and instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with administrators, guardians, and students.
  • Establish classroom management and safety protocols, supervise students, and maintain records.
  • Stay informed about research and best practices in English-language education.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and a positive school climate.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Attend scheduled work days and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong understanding of pedagogical best practices.
  • Ability to design engaging lessons using various teaching methods.
  • Leadership and classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite or similar software.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field, valid state teaching license or certification, and Bilingual or ESL Endorsement required. A Master's degree and prior teaching experience are preferred.

Physical Requirements
