Job summary

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club in Fairfield County is hiring a Preschool Assistant Teacher for our Early Learning Center. You will support Head Teachers, assist with daily routines, supervise playtime, and help implement engaging activities that foster early literacy and social skills.

The role requires a High School diploma (or GED) and a willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid. Bilingual candidates and those with childcare experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; CDA or related coursework preferred.
• Experience in an OEC licensed childcare or daycare setting preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
• Knowledge of OEC regulations, CT ELDS, Early Start CT, NAEYC and developmentally appropriate practice.
• Dependable, punctual, enthusiastic with a strong commitment to early learning and community based youth development.
• Bilingual a plus.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs. regularly (up to 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance), bend, and sit on the floor.
• Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and welfare of all enrolled children, supervision during activities indoors and outdoors.
• Maintain appropriate standards for child discipline and behavior using non-punitive methods.
• Day-to-day operation; maintain a harmonious and efficient work environment.
• Perform housekeeping duties, including snack/lunch prep and cleanup.
• Attend staff meetings and events as required.
• Interact with parents or refer questions to teachers or Directors.
• Participate in planning program curriculum.
• Assist in maintaining/testing emergency response plans.
• Engage in ongoing professional development.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
