Job summary

West Haven Community House seeks a passionate Full-time Assistant Teacher for our Early Learning Center in West Haven, CT. Join a collaborative team supporting the Head Teacher to deliver holistic, developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children.

The role requires a two-year teaching-related background, an associate’s degree preferred, and CT licensing certifications (CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, EpiPen). Schedule is 9:30am–5:30pm, 35 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Prefer an associate’s degree in early childhood education or field related to early childhood education and a minimum of two years’ teaching/coaching experience in a social service/school setting.
• Have and maintain a current CPR/First Aid Certificate and Medication Administration Training, and Epi Pen Certification, which meets State of Connecticut Licensing requirements. Also, must be approved through BCIS ( background Check and Fingerprints through Office of Early Childhood). A Health Assessment at time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom leadership in the Head Teacher’s absence and help set a professional, caring tone.
• Work collaboratively with co-teachers, teacher aides, interns, parents, and volunteers by sharing early childhood principles and OEC Standards.
• Implement developmentally appropriate principles through daily activities that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of individuals and groups.
• Assist Head Teacher in curriculum planning and prepare daily program activities based on the needs of each child.
• Ensure students have the opportunity to select their own activities from a variety of open centers.
• Maintain attendance and program records with accurate documentation.
