Job summary

Houston ISD is seeking an Assistant Teacher to partner with ISD teachers in developing activities for preschool children, supporting educational objectives and performance standards. You will assist with lesson plans, materials, and keeping records in the online system.

The ideal candidate may hold a CDA credential or be enrolled in a CDA program, or have an associate/bachelor’s degree with ECE coursework. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• By September 30, 2013 the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007 mandates that anyone holding the position of Assistant Teacher have, as a minimum requirement, one of the following:
• A current CDA credential or enrollment in a CDA credential program to be completed within one year of hire
• An associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area) with a minimum of 18 hours of ECE coursework
• Enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing learning materials and activities outlined on the lesson plan.
• Provide instructional services under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Participate in screening, observation and documentation in progress in online system.
• Record and maintain student records (Portfolios, AM/PM Checklist, etc.).
• Maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment.
• Follow education and safety policies and procedures.
• Document in-kind and volunteer time sheets.
• Assist students with behavioral/management needs.
• Assume lead role in the teacher's absence.
• Perform other duties as required.
