Job summary

YMCA of the Lowcountry is seeking a part-time Assistant Preschool Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in a safe, nurturing environment for children ages 2-5. You’ll help implement age-appropriate activities while ensuring compliance with youth safety and licensing standards.

The role offers flexible scheduling up to 30 hours per week with operating hours 8 AM–3 PM. A high school diploma is required; state-accredited childcare experience and ongoing training are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of early childhood education experience preferred.
• Experience in a state-accredited childcare setting preferred.
• Ability to actively supervise children and respond to emergencies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and care for preschool-age children in line with YMCA policies and licensing.
• Plan and co-lead age-appropriate activities to support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive health, safety, and sanitation.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children and families.
• Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and active supervision at all times.
• Support positive behavior guidance using developmentally appropriate strategies.
• Meet safety standards and licensing requirements; complete required trainings (ProSolutions, CPR, First Aid, Praesidium).
• Maintain accurate documentation for program operations and compliance.
• Collaborate with program leadership and staff.
