Job description

Summary

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Help implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum in the preschool classroom.

Duties:

  1. Work as a team member with the head Preschool teacher to meet the needs of the children and the classroom as a whole.
  2. Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child.
  3. Encourage assistants to contribute to curriculum planning.
  4. Prepare and implement weekly lesson plans using the CT Early Learning and Developmental Standards.
  5. Complete assessments of each child's development monthly.
  6. Continuously add to individual children's portfolios monthly.
  7. Setup and conduct parent-teacher conferences twice per year.
  8. Maintain daily open communication with parents, including posting to Smartcare daily.
  9. Keep accident reports and maintain anecdotal and observation records.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and report any suspected abuse to supervisor.
  11. Arrange classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy.
  12. Maintain a safe and healthy environment, inspect and replace damaged or lost materials.
  13. Comply with the program's professional development plan and adhere to policies outlined in Employee and Policy handbooks.
  14. Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers in the center.
  15. Keep all appropriate records such as attendance and timesheets.
  16. Meet all applicable licensing regulations.
  17. Coordinate appropriate educational activities such as visitors and family events.

Requirements:

  1. Must meet State of CT requirements as a childcare center worker.
  2. Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field or OEC equivalent.
  3. CPR/First Aid Certified.
  4. Ongoing professional development in child development required.
  5. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Demonstrate organizational abilities.
  7. Ability to build rapport with families and community members.
  8. Must meet physical requirements of the job, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
