Assistant Teacher Responsibilities

Assistant teachers are responsible for supervising up to 8 children aged 6 weeks to 36 months under the guidance of a classroom teacher.

Duties

• Using positive discipline techniques to support independence, self-regulation, and social skills
• Supporting children in developing self-help skills
• Record keeping
• Communicating with families
• Maintaining confidentiality
• Maintaining conduct and professionalism
• Maintaining a safe, learning environment
• Implementing curriculum aligned with CTELDS to support children's growth and development
• Gathering data regarding children's growth and development in accordance with CTDOTS
• Maintaining required certifications: CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, Background checks, CT Charts-A-Course Registry, current health statement, Covid vaccination
• Demonstrating reliability and punctuality

Requirements

Assistant teachers must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience working with young children, preferably with 3 references.

Reliable transportation required.

Ability to SMILE: Smile, Make others feel special, Provide information, Listen, Engage with children.

Nice to Have

Evidence of formal Early Childhood Education coursework can increase pay rate upon hire.
