Job summary

Union County Community Action, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver for our Head Start preschool in Hamlet, NC. The role combines classroom support with safe transportation for children on a Monday–Friday schedule.

The starting rate is up to $18.50 per hour, with benefits including medical/dental/vision, life insurance, 401(k), and paid holidays/leaves. A CDL and CPR/First Aid are required or obtainable within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Assistant Teacher/ Bus Driver I requires High School Diploma/GED and CDA; six months to one year related experience preferred.
• Assistant Teacher/ Bus Driver II requires an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field; six months to one year related experience preferred.
• EDU 119 required
• CDL required or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
• CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain
• Valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with classroom activities and lesson plans
• Support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development
• Maintain classroom documentation and records
• Supervise children in classroom and outdoor settings
• Assist with transportation by driving or monitoring buses

Schedule: Monday–Friday 6:45am-2:45pm (40 hours/week)

Physical Requirements

Must be able to actively supervise young children in classroom and outdoor environments, assist children on and off the bus, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
