Job summary

St. Therese Academy Preschool seeks an assistant to support teachers, supervise students, and help with classroom operations at our San Diego campus. The role offers PART-TIME or FULL-TIME hours with morning and afternoon shifts and pays $18–$20 per hour, non-exempt under CA labor laws, reporting to the Preschool Director.

Qualifications include 12+ ECE units, good communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions in a busy classroom. Catholic school experience is preferred.

• Supervises students during meals, recess, and on playgrounds.
• Supports students having difficulty resting during naptime.
• Follows classroom rules and directives from lead teachers and director.
• Supervises bathroom routines and assists with accidents as needed.
• Attends professional development, school events, and staff meetings.
• Performs other duties to support a smooth program.

Shifts Available:

1. 7:30am - 12:30pm
2. 12:30pm - 5:30pm
3. 9:00am - 5:30pm

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; hourly

Pay Rate: $18 - $20/hour

Job Summary:
Assists teachers with classroom preparations, supervises students, and provides support as needed

Primary Responsibilities:

• Gets materials/supplies ready for the day and sets up equipment inside the classroom and on the playground.
• Prepares naptime by setting up mats placing and placing bedding in bags at the beginning of the week.
• Assists with general housekeeping tasks to provide a safe and clean classroom environment. These tasks may include disinfecting heavy traffic areas, clearing and cleaning sinks, countertops, and tabletops and sweeping.
• Supervises students during lunch, snack, recess, on the playgrounds, and while in line. For outside play, there will be stars to go up to the playground.
• Assists students having difficulty resting during naptime.
• Recognizes student needs and provides solutions
• Complies with CA state and county codes and licensing regulations.
• Follows classroom rules determined by lead teachers and/or the director.
• Supervise bathrooms as needed, including changing children that have had bathroom accidents
• Attends all professional development trainings, school functions, and staff meetings.
• Performs other jobs/tasks/duties deemed necessary for a smooth functioning program as assigned by the teacher and/or director.

Requirements

Religious Qualifications:

• Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
• Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

Professional Qualifications:

• Proof of completion of 12 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to understand the stages of early childhood development and learning progressions
• Ability to solve problems and provide solutions.
• Ability to cope with a stressful environment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and duties based on needs of children and teachers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the aide must:

• Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
• Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
• Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
• Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
• Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
• Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
