Job summary

St. Therese Academy Preschool in San Diego seeks a dedicated teacher aide to supervise and support children aged two to five, delivering a safe, engaging daily program aligned with Diocese of San Diego policies.

Reports to Preschool Director; Full-Time, 7:30am–4:00pm, Monday–Friday; Non-Exempt; $21/hour DOE. Requires 12 ECE units, strong communication, teamwork, and ability to manage nap times and daily activities.

Qualifications

• Proof of completion of 12 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and implements the program for the class in accordance with Diocese of San Diego policies.
• Prepares materials and sets up equipment inside the classroom and on the playground.
• Prepares naptime by setting up mats and bedding for the week.
• Assists with housekeeping to maintain a safe, clean classroom.
• Supervises students during lunch, snack, recess, and on playgrounds.
• Assists students having difficulty resting during naptime.
• Recognizes student needs and provides solutions.
• Complies with CA state and county codes and licensing regulations.
• Follows classroom rules set by lead teachers or director.
• Supervises bathrooms as needed, including diapering accidents.
• Attends professional development trainings and staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the director.

Employment Type: Full-Time, 7:30am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; hourly

Pay Rate: $21/hour, based on experience

Job Summary

The professional hired will be responsible for the general supervision and management of children between the ages of two and five years of age.

Primary Responsibilities

• Supervising and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Diocese of San Diego


• Gets materials/supplies ready for the day and sets up equipment inside the classroom and on the playground.


• Prepares naptime by setting up mats placing and placing bedding in bags at the beginning of the week.


• Assists with general housekeeping tasks to provide a safe and clean classroom environment. These tasks may include disinfecting heavy traffic areas, clearing and cleaning sinks, countertops, and tabletops and sweeping.


• Supervises students during lunch, snack, recess, on the playgrounds, and while in line. For outside play, there will be stars to go up to the playground.


• Assists students having difficulty resting during naptime.


• Recognizes student needs and provides solutions


• Complies with CA state and county codes and licensing regulations.


• Follows classroom rules determined by lead teachers and/or the director.


• Supervise bathrooms as needed, including changing children that have had bathroom accidents


• Attends all professional development trainings, school functions, and staff meetings.


• Performs other jobs/tasks/duties deemed necessary for a smooth functioning program as assigned by the director.

Physical Requirements

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

• Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating


• Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.


• Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces


• Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending


• Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class


• Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
