Employment Status: Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt (FLSA)

Compensation: $23-25 per hour

Hours: 2nd shift 11:00am – 7:30pm, Monday‑Friday

Position Summary

The Preparation Technician is responsible for inspecting, preparing, and maintaining equipment to ensure fleet readiness, safety, and compliance. This role supports daily operations by conducting detailed inspections, documenting work accurately, and addressing equipment issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed inspections of accessorial equipment including chains, binders, straps, and tarps.
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs, including inverter, mudflaps, lights, batteries, and head rack replacement.
  • Assist senior technicians.
  • Perform inbound inspections to verify that all equipment is safe, functional, and compliant.
  • Thoroughly detail tractors to prepare them for new drivers.
  • Use a tablet or computerized system to receive assignments and document work performed.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure preparation tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Mechanical experience 2–5 years.
  • Technical training in automotive or diesel technology is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic computer and tablet proficiency.
  • Effective communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a shop or yard environment.
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, outdoor conditions, and cleaning materials may occur.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Manual dexterity to handle equipment, tools, and cleaning materials.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient to perform inspections and respond to safety concerns.
