Job summary

The Promoting Readiness, Empowerment and Purpose (PREP) Classroom Teacher at Illinois School District U-46 provides instruction and support for students on the autism spectrum in a self-contained setting, aligned to grade-level standards and IEP requirements.

The teacher monitors progress, collaborates with families and staff, and promotes independence, communication, social skills and executive functioning.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of positive behavior strategies
• Data collection skills to monitor progress
• Ability to be flexible and collaborate in a team
• Familiarity with general education standards preferred
• Experience in a self-contained setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned to core curriculum and grade-level standards
• Develop and implement IEP-based supports with progress monitoring
• Create a predictable, supportive classroom environment
• Use data to guide instruction and communicate progress
• Collaborate with related service providers and general education staff
• Serve as case manager and complete IEP paperwork
• Participate in IEP meetings and team meetings
• Provide guidance to paraprofessionals and ensure consistent implementation
• Use positive behavior supports and CPI/Ukeru-aligned approaches
• Support cross-setting student participation (community, specials, transitions)
• Communicate with families about progress and needs
• Maintain records and meet timelines for documentation and assessments
• Participate in school improvement and professional collaboration
• Develop transition plans for students 14+ years old
• Be willing to obtain CPI and Ukeru training
• Attend up to two summer PD days
• Perform other duties as assigned
