Job description

About the Role

Jackson & Company is hiring a Prep Cook. This is the foundation of everything that leaves our

kitchen. Every dish we send out depends on prep being done right, done consistently, and done on time. We are looking for someone who takes that seriously, works clean, and takes pride in the part of the job most guests never see.

We are a catering and events operation. Volume changes by the day, the work moves, and no

two events look the same. If you want a job where you can settle into the same routine every

shift, this is not it. If you like a kitchen that stays busy and want to be part of a team that

executes at a high level, keep reading.

Compensation

$12.00 to $16.00 per hour, depending on experience.

What You Will Own
  • PREP TO SPEC. Every item prepped to recipe, to portion, to size. Consistency is the job.
  • WORK THE LIST. Execute the daily prep list and finish it. If something will not be ready, say so early rather than letting service find out.
  • PRODUCE AND PROTEIN. Wash, cut, portion, and store produce and proteins correctly and efficiently.
  • STORAGE AND ROTATION. Label, date, and rotate everything. First in, first out, no exceptions.
  • WASTE. Portion carefully and use product fully. What we throw away costs the company money.
  • FOOD SAFETY. Follow all temperature, handling, storage, and sanitation procedures without being reminded.
  • WORK CLEAN. Clean as you go and break down your station properly. A clean station is a faster station.
  • SUPPORT THE LINE. Step in wherever the kitchen needs a hand during service, including plating and dish.
  • EVENT LOADS. Help pull, pack, and stage product for offsite events.
What We Are Looking For
  • Prior kitchen or prep experience preferred, but we will train someone with the right work ethic.
  • Solid, safe knife skills.
  • The ability to follow recipes and prep lists accurately without shortcuts.
  • Self motivation. We need someone who finds the work rather than waits to be told.
  • Attention to detail on portions, labeling, and cleanliness.
  • Reliability. You show up, on time, when you are scheduled.
  • The ability to keep pace when volume picks up.
  • Food Handler certification, or the ability to obtain it before your start date.
  • Availability that matches the needs of the business, including weekends and event days.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
