Job description

St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college, is seeking a part-time Prep Cook. Join a team recognized by students on Niche as having the "Best College Food in Wisconsin" and ranked among the top in the nation! This position offers daytime hours that align with the school calendar, with summers off. Perfect for someone who values work-life balance and wants to contribute meaningfully while enjoying flexibility outside of traditional 9-5 schedules. The hours are generally Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. The position begins annually on August 20th and ends on May 20th.

Non-Exempt Scheduled Weekly Hours: 18

Responsibilities
  • Attend daily staff huddles, staff in-services, and required training, including AllerTrain, ServSafe, Emergency Action Plans, and departmental updates.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary food production environment.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and work areas.
  • Prepare menu items according to standardized recipes for meal plans, catering events, and cash operations.
  • Assist chefs and supervisors with the preparation and production of ingredients for meal plans, catering events, and cash operations.
  • Follow safe work practices and maintain awareness of personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and departmental procedures.
  • Ensure food quality and consistency through proper batch production, adherence to standardized recipes, and monitoring of freshness and presentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with quantity food preparation preferred.
  • 1-2 years of food production experience in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of state sanitation and food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to communicate professionally and resolve concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for coworkers and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and focus in a busy, noisy work environment.
