Job summary

Upstream Hospitality Group is seeking motivated Prep Cooks to join our fast-paced kitchen in Patchogue, NY. You will wash, peel, and prep ingredients, follow recipes, and support the line cooks to ensure smooth service.

Candidates with prep or line cook experience are a plus. Must be able to work holidays, lift up to 50 lbs, and stay on your feet for long shifts in a hot, loud environment. We offer a collaborative team atmosphere and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Prep or line cook experience is a plus.
• Ability to work holidays, even if regular schedule does not fall on the holiday.
• Physical requirements: able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for up to 10 hours.
• Able to work in a hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods in a fast pace.

Responsibilities

• Wash, peel, and cut various foods to prepare for cooking.
• Prepare all items consistently to company recipes and standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of assigned station and the rest of the kitchen.
• Handle all food items by washing, chopping, and cutting according to recipe specifications.
• Label and store all products following company and safety standards.
• Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas.
• Promptly inform management when equipment is not working properly.
• Complete opening and closing checklists and assist others in opening and closing the kitchen.
• Possess in-depth knowledge of assigned recipes and can produce them to company standards.
• Follow all direction provided by the Kitchen Manager
• Communicate and support co-workers while being a team player.
• Communicate product needs to line cooks, support staff, and Kitchen Manager.
• Understand and comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, police, and procedures.
• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed and provide cooks with needed items.
• Fill in for fellow team members where needed to ensure quality and service standards are met.
• Arrives appropriately dressed and ready to work on time.
• All other duties as assigned.
