Job summary

The Greenleigh, a Makeready property in Houston, seeks a Prep Cook to support our culinary team by preparing high-quality ingredients and maintaining an organized, sanitary kitchen for hotel guests and events. The role requires following recipes, labeling and storing food, and assisting during service to ensure consistent, exceptional meals.

Ideal candidates have prep cook or kitchen experience, knowledge of food safety, and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Previous prep cook or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures.
• Ability to accurately follow recipes and written or verbal instructions.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, slicing, peeling, measuring, and portioning according to recipes and production needs.
• Assist chefs with the preparation of menu items for restaurant service, banquets, catering events, and special functions.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations, prep areas, storage spaces, and kitchen equipment.
• Follow standardized recipes, portion controls, and presentation guidelines.
• Properly label, date, rotate, and store food products in accordance with food safety standards.
• Receive, organize, and stock kitchen deliveries and inventory.
• Support culinary staff during meal service and event execution as needed.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Follow all health department regulations, food safety practices, and sanitation procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and professional kitchen environment at all times.
