Job summary

dnata Catering seeks a Prep Cook to join our Inflight catering team in New York. You will assist in ingredient prep, follow recipes, and ensure accurate portioning for airline meals.

You'll help with storage, rotation, and cleanliness, while supporting cooking, baking, and dish assembly as needed. A focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred with 3+ years’ experience in a high-volume food service.
  • Valid food handler's certificate or equivalent.
  • HACCP knowledge.
  • Flexibility to perform assigned tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and self-organized.
  • Ability to accurately monitor wastage.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks.

  • Cuts and portions different types of cheese according to specifications.
  • Cuts and portions different types of fruits and vegetables according to specifications.
  • Read and follow dnata Catering recipes correctly and provide correct proportions.
  • Comply with all HACCP/GMP and dnata catering sanitation and proper food handling policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Assist inventory management, stock rotation and maintaining a clean workspace.
  • Support production of high-quality meals by assisting in cooking, baking, and assembling dishes.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Prep Cook at dnata Catering, you will play a vital role in our Inflight catering team, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of high-quality meals for airline clients. Your main responsibility will be to assist in the preparation and organization of ingredients, ensuring they are ready for cooking and assembly. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will follow recipes and portion guidelines to measure and prepare ingredients, such as vegetables, meats, and sauces, while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards. With a keen eye for detail, you will assist in the proper storage and rotation of ingredients, ensuring freshness and minimizing waste. As a Prep Cook, you will also contribute to the efficient operation of the kitchen by assisting with inventory management, stock rotation, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Collaborating closely with the culinary team, you will support the production of high-quality meals by assisting in cooking, baking, and assembling dishes as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred with 3+ years’ experience in a high-volume food service. Valid food handler's certificate or equivalent
  • A reliable, quality-conscious, safe worker.
  • Culinary knowledge of terms, procedures, and practices.
  • Flexibility to perform assigned tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • HACCP knowledge.
  • Excellent attention to detail and self-organized
  • Ability to accurately monitor wastage.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Flexibility (different shifts - night, weekends, holidays).

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. This position also requires constant attendance and punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time. Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan. Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 30 pounds. Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Use equipment and materials properly.
