Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• Perioperative, medical-surgical, or preoperative experience a plus.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficient in electronic medical record documentation.
• Graduate of a school of nursing with current RN license in Arkansas
• Must pass WRMC Medication/Dosage Calculations Exam and IV Therapy Exam
• Maintains annual unit specific competencies and adheres to White River Health System's standards of behavior.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and review patient histories, medication lists, allergies, and surgical histories.
• Perform preoperative nursing assessments and identify potential medical or anesthesia-related concerns.
• Review preoperative orders and ensure required laboratory work, diagnostic testing, and clearances are completed.
• Identify abnormal test results or changes in patient condition and communicate concerns to the appropriate physician or anesthesia provider.
• Provide patient and family education regarding preoperative instructions, including NPO guidelines and preparation for surgery.
• Coordinate referrals, medical clearances, and additional testing as indicated.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons' offices, anesthesia providers, and other departments to facilitate surgical readiness.
• Document assessments, patient education, communications, and interventions accurately in the EMR.
• Identify patients who may require additional evaluation or intervention prior to their scheduled procedure.
• Respond to patient questions and concerns related to preoperative preparation.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
