The Premium Staff Accountant role supports the Team Leader/Senior in executing all transactions related to Premium Accounting within NP East. The role manages and reconciles insurance premium transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting and smooth cash flow. It links policy administration, billing, and finance teams, researches inquiries, and meets processing deadlines with accuracy and timeliness.

How You Will Contribute:
  • Record and reconcile premium payments, broker commission, state taxes, and credit refunds.
  • Apply payments accurately to customer or broker accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable (A/R), including suspense accounts and aging reports.
  • Communicate with agents, brokers, and internal teams to resolve premium differences or billing issues.
  • Ensure transactions follow company policies, audit requirements, and regulatory guidelines; assist with month‑end close.
  • Research and correct misapplied premiums, payment variances, and billing errors.
  • Utilize Excel and financial systems to analyze data and support reconciliation and reporting activities.
  • Perform required general ledger account maintenance.
  • Maintain clear records, process documentation, and workflow updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience to be Successful:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Strong analytical skills, with accuracy and attention to detail; excellent communication and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize a diverse portfolio of tasks while consistently meeting deadlines; ability to communicate with different levels within an organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Agency Management systems (preferred).
  • Insurance background (preferred).
