Job summary

Premier Communications in Sioux Center, IA is seeking a full-time GIS Specialist to maintain and update its fiber network GIS databases and maps across routes, drops, splice points, cabinets, handholes, and related infrastructure. The role requires field visits to verify data accuracy.

Responsibilities include processing as-built documentation, incorporating construction changes, QA/QC, and coordinating with Engineering, Construction, and Operations on mapping deliverables.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in GIS, geography, engineering technology, or related field preferred but not required.
• Two years GIS and/or drafting experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
• Experience in telecommunications, broadband, utility, or fiber networks is a plus.

• Prepares CAD drawings and layouts (equipment drawings, schematics, central office floor plans, staking sheets) for engineering, commercial, and office projects as needed.
• Travels to field and job sites to collect data and verify mapping accuracy.

Premier Communications is seeking applicants for a full-time GIS Specialist in its Sioux Center, Iowa, location.

This GIS Specialist position:

• maintains and updates Premier’s fiber network GIS databases and mapping records, including fiber routes, drops, splice points, cabinets, handholes, and related infrastructure.
• processes as-built documentation and incorporates completed construction changes into GIS records and cable/fiber maps, performs quality assurance/quality control reviews of mapping and network data, and coordinates with contractors and internal Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams on project documentation and mapping deliverables.
• prepares CAD drawings and layouts, including equipment drawings, schematics, central office floor plans, and construction and staking sheets, for engineering, commercial, and office projects as needed
• travels to field and job sites as needed to collect data and verify mapping accuracy.

An associate degree in GIS, geography, engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus two years of GIS and/or drafting experience is preferred, but not necessary. Experience in telecommunications, broadband, utility, or fiber network environments is a plus. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
