BrightStars helps families in Rhode Island access QUALITY child care, early learning, and school-age programs. We help child care providers learn about best practices in early learning and apply them to the care children receive. We recognize program quality and give parents information to make choices about their children’s care and education.
Program Address
1170 Pontiac Ave, Cranston, Rhode Island 02920
Position Description
- Observe children and co‑teacher interactions and approaches to facilitate reflection and interpretation of best practice, ensuring all materials, activities, and the environment are developmentally appropriate and stimulating.
- Spend a minimum of 1 hour weekly in formal observation of your students (i.e., running records, anecdotal notes, and other assessments).
- Spend quality time respectfully interacting with children in the classroom and researching with them to then dig deeper during small group time and community meetings both in the classroom and on the playground.
- Carefully observe and track the growth of the whole child and the classroom community, using the Developmental Foundations Guide and tracking forms to reveal feedback and a deeper understanding of strengths and areas for growth.
- Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity. Practice positive discipline and conflict resolution techniques in guiding children’s behaviors, using neutral respectful language and tone, logical connections and consequences, seeing “mistakes” as learning opportunities and supporting children as they take risks.
- Design an environment, inside and out, that includes love and elements of nature and open‑ended materials that promote critical thinking, connections, relationships, creativity, and social problem solving. Ensure materials are in quality condition, safe and free of damage.
- Maintain a positive, open relationship with Parents and Families. Find creative ways to make families aware of the interest and work of the children and teachers together, including weekly observations uploaded to the ProCare app, extending the thinking and participation to parents to make the learning visible.
- Be an active participant in a family inclusive environment, attending all family meetings, events and conferences (2×/yr), using the stories, work and focus of the children to prepare and enhance these family gatherings.
- Attend and collaborate during 1:1 meetings, program meetings and classroom meetings; initiate follow‑up after these meetings to extend the plans, challenges and provocations discussed. Attend staff meetings once per month to collaborate and discuss as a community.
