Job summary

AlphaX is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead early-stage planning, estimating, budgeting, and bid strategy for commercial projects in the Kansas City region. You will oversee projects from feasibility and design development through final pricing and handoff to construction.

Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors; drive value engineering, risk analysis, and procurement strategies while mentoring team members and coordinating with leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or commercial construction.
• 10+ years of overall commercial construction experience preferred.
• Strong background in estimating, budgeting, cost analysis, and value engineering.
• Experience managing projects through multiple design and preconstruction phases.
• Proficiency with estimating software, MS Office, and construction management platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction planning, estimating, budgeting, and final bid development.
• Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, GMP proposals, and final pricing.
• Review drawings to define scope, costs, and gaps.
• Build pricing models and evaluate financial risks against market conditions.
• Lead value-engineering to identify cost-effective design/material options.
• Develop subcontractor scopes, bid packages, and procurement strategies.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, and suppliers.
• Present cost forecasts and risks to leadership and clients.
