Job summary

Herzog Energy, Inc. is seeking an experienced Preconstruction/Design Engineer to oversee preconstruction and design for utility-scale solar and BESS projects across the United States.

Qualifications

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with stakeholders.

Overview

Herzog Energy, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Preconstruction/Design Engineer throughout the United States to join our team.

This key role involves overseeing the preconstruction and design process for utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, ensuring seamless integration between design, procurement, and construction activities. As the Preconstruction/Design Manager, you will lead cross-functional teams, collaborate with clients and stakeholders, and support successful project execution while upholding Herzog's standards of excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preconstruction and design process from initial development through project execution, ensuring alignment with project goals, client expectations, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, estimators, procurement, and construction personnel to develop efficient and constructible solar and BESS solutions.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources during the preconstruction phase to support successful project outcomes.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project success.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the design and preconstruction phases, addressing challenges and supporting informed project decisions.
  • Troubleshoot constructability issues during the design phase to manage project cost, schedule, and performance risks.
  • Oversee the development and review of design documents, drawings, specifications, and other project-related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices related to utility-scale solar and BESS construction.
  • Lead value engineering efforts to optimize project outcomes related to cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Support estimating, procurement, and construction teams through project handoff and transition into execution.
  • Regularly report project status, progress, and challenges to senior management and project stakeholders.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, design-build, or preconstruction management, with experience in utility-scale solar or renewable energy projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV, BESS, construction methods, design standards, and project delivery processes.
  • Proven track record managing complex design-build or EPC projects from preconstruction through execution.
  • Experience coordinating with engineers, owners, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software, design tools, and relevant software applications.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across the country.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.

  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
