Job summary

CPPI-seeking a Preconstruction Engineer in Gainesville, FL to support estimating, bid preparation, constructability reviews, and project coordination for hard bid and CM/DB work.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, preparing cost estimates, bid evaluations, and subcontractor prequalification while maintaining schedules and client communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or 5 years of equivalent experience).
• Experience using on-screen takeoff or graphic software.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of commercial construction systems and cost structures.
• Proficiency in Excel, estimating software, and plan management tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail-oriented and proactive.
• LEED accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, and contract docs to identify scope and risk.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop cost estimates with estimating software.
• Solicit and evaluate bids; prepare bid comparison matrices.
• Manage prequalification of subcontractors and bid lists.
• Assist in preparing bid proposals, pricing forms, and deliverables for hard bid and CM/DB.
• Support development of preconstruction and design schedules.
• Conduct constructability and value engineering reviews; prepare RFIs and reports.
• Participate in client/design/internal meetings; maintain meeting records.
• Prepare meeting agendas and coordinate bid scope workshops.
• Collaborate with Operations to transition awarded projects; ensure proper handoff.
• Maintain estimating data and support pricing updates.
• Uphold safety, quality, and company standards; perform other duties.

JOB SUMMARY

The Preconstruction Engineer supports the Preconstruction Department by assisting with estimating, bid preparation, constructability reviews, and project coordination for both hard bid and negotiated work. This position plays a key role in delivering accurate estimates, managing preconstruction schedules, and ensuring client satisfaction in alignment with the company’s mission, vision, and core values.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or 5 years of equivalent experience).
• Experience using on-screen takeoff software or other graphic software.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.

• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), estimating software, and plan management tools.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management abilities.

• Maintain accurate estimating data and support ongoing database and pricing updates.
• Uphold safety, quality, and company standards on all assigned tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.
