Qualifications

The Preclinical Safety (PCS) department within the Novartis Biomedical Research Translational Medicine Unit provides world class preclinical safety profiling and assessment for optimal drug discovery, development and commercialization, with state-of-the-art regulatory compliance.

As a Preclinical Safety Profiling Laboratory Associate, you will join our global PCS team to help us to unleash the power of early safety screening and profiling approaches for advancing translational safety assessment and to drive drug discovery and development. You will bring your curious, innovative, and collaborative mindset to leverage a wealth of non-clinical safety-related data generated within our department and deploy state-of-the-art laboratory science and data exploration methods to accelerate the advancement of innovative medicines.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform in-vitro biochemical and cell-based experiments to support teams to clarify and mitigate off-target activities leading to “go” or “no go” decisions.

  • Maintain cell lines and provide support for ongoing experiments.

  • Independently develop assays to implement project strategy.

  • Experience with radioactivity is advantageous.

  • Experience with working with stand-alone automation and readers (e.g. Felix, ECHO, µCELL, Envision, Microbeta).

  • Interest in identifying and evaluating new assay technologies.

  • The role is central to our support of all small molecule projects from early discovery phases through to preclinical candidates and beyond.

  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders, including experimental design, data quality and timeline requirements.

  • Participate in cross-functional early safety screening & profiling collaborations with Novartis Biomedical Research partners to support the early derisking of compounds, drug targets, and therapeutic modalities

  • Deliver clear and concise presentations for audiences with different expertise

  • Ensure quality and compliance of data generation, analyses and resultant reports

Essential Requirements
  • BS with 5+ years of relevant work experience or MVSc/MS/M.Pharm with 2+ years of relevant work experience in pharmacology / toxicology

  • Understands the basic concepts of hazard identification and risk assessment associated with off-target mitigation.

  • Familiar with early drug discovery processes

  • Experience with data integrity and quality assurance practices.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate analytical concepts for diverse audience and stakeholders

  • Articulates solutions / recommendations to business users. Presents analytical content concisely and effectively to non-technical team members and influences the outcome of predictive safety profiling contributions.

  • Coordinates, prioritizes and efficiently allocates resources to critical initiatives: plans resources proactively, anticipates and actively manages change, sets stakeholder expectations as required, identifies operational risks and enable the team to drive issues to resolution, balances multiple priorities and minimizes surprise escalations.

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to solve critical business problems, propose operational efficiencies and innovative approaches.

  • Familiar with visualization tools to increase efficiency and quality of the data communication and interpretation.

This is a dual level posting. The final level & title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience & capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered.

The salary for this position is expected to range between:

Senior Scientist I: $98,700 and $183,300 per year.
Senior Scientist II: $103,600 and $192,400 per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.

US-based eligible employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, life and disability benefits, a 401(k) with company contribution and match, and a variety of other benefits. In addition, employees are eligible for a generous time off package including vacation, personal days, holidays and other leaves.
