Job summary

Ellwood Specialty Metals Company in Sterling Heights, MI is hiring a Saw/Flow Operator I to cut steel or aluminum stock to customer specifications and ensure quality.

You will load, set up, inspect, and document production, operate saw equipment, and maintain a clean, safe work environment in a busy shop. This non-exempt role reports to the Operations Manager and requires adherence to safety rules.

Qualifications

• Working mechanical knowledge/aptitude
• Able to understand basic correspondence, instructions, rules, policies, graphs, and/or charts
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and use numerical concepts
• Ability to use measuring devices such as tapes and gauges
• Vision acuity near and far, color, peripheral vision and depth perception
• Hearing ability to communicate with co-workers and management

Responsibilities

• Receive, store, handle, cut and ship material to meet shop and customer requirements
• Load/unload material using forklift or overhead crane, position material
• Complete paperwork and input data into computer system, update inventory
• Set up and operate saw, select feeds/speeds, maintain coolant levels
• Inspect material quality during/after cut to ensure square pieces
• Check material identification and label as required
• Maintain production records and report defects or issues to supervision
