Job summary

Master Roll Manufacturing, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN is seeking a skilled Manual Lathe Machinist for a 40+ hour per week, on-site role in the steel industry. You will operate manual lathes, grinders, polishers and related tools, reading blueprints and using precision instruments to meet tight tolerances.

Experience with long bar turning is a plus; pay ranges from $18 to $24 per hour and depends on experience.

Qualifications

Calculate dimensions and tolerances using micrometers and Vernier calipers.
Machine parts to specifications using lathes or grinders, use of steady rest.
Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, hardness testers, profilometers.
Set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools and many specialized tools to perform precision machining operations.
Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.

Responsibilities

Operate machinery on a job shop floor including manual lathes, grinders, polishers, hand tools and precision measurement instruments.
Study blueprints and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations and tolerances.
Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for machining work.
Observe and listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine repairs.
