Job summary

General Atomics seeks a skilled Machinist to join the Inertial Fusion Technology division in California. The role focuses on high-precision, small-quantity components in a lab environment handling beryllium with respirator and clean suit requirements.

Responsibilities include setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills, NC programming in G-code and CAD/CAM, and rigorous inspection using micrometers, height gauges, CT and optical profilers. Safety and documentation are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience operating precision CNC lathes and mills.
• Familiar with NC programming in G-code and CAD/CAM.
• Proficient inspection skills with micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
• Ability to follow safety procedures when working with beryllium.
• Comfort with Excel data entry and file archiving.

Responsibilities

• Operates precision CNC lathes or mills along with standard machining equipment such as manual drill presses, lathes, mills, saws and shears.
• Follow safety procedures when machining in a laboratory that works with beryllium components.
• Set-up and operate CNC mills and lathes.
• NC programming in both manual (G-code) and CAD/CAM (Creo/MasterCAM).
• Inspect parts using mics, calipers, digital height gages, measuring microscope, indicators, gage blocks, surface plates, sine plates, etc.
• Inspect parts using CT and white light optical profilers.
• Document inspection results by entering data into Excel templates and archiving on server.
• Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
