Job summary

MDS Staffing seeks a skilled Machinist to support a busy shop environment. You will read blueprints, set up machines, and program operations to meet exacting specifications. The role requires hands-on experience with manual lathes and overhead cranes, and a commitment to safety and quality.

The successful candidate will have 2–5 years steel machining experience, a HS diploma or machining diploma, and the ability to work independently and in a team on various projects.

Qualifications

• Read blueprints and take or read measurements to plan layout procedures.
• Determine machine(s) and tools needed to perform machining operations.
• Plan and set-up machines/tools to fully utilize capacity and minimize setups.
• Program and optimize the sequence of operations according to blueprints and specs.
• Operate multiple machines with tight tolerances.
• Experience with manual lathes.
• Determine cutting tools and holding methods for workpieces.
• Ability and experience running large parts.
• Experience using overhead cranes.
• Check own work for conformance to specifications.

Responsibilities

• Utilize shop math in daily tasks.
• Maintain equipment in safe condition.
• Log hours to proper jobs.
