About the role

As a Precision Machinist, you'll be joining our manufacturing team to create high-quality fixtures and gages essential to our production processes. This position requires a skilled craftsperson who can combine traditional machining expertise with modern CNC capabilities. You'll work closely with engineering and quality teams to ensure the highest standards of precision and quality in all tooling components. Based at our facility in Chardon, Ohio, this role offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a dynamic manufacturing environment where attention to detail and commitment to excellence are valued.

What you'll do

  • Set up and operate manual equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining operations
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure specifications are met
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Provide input on fixture and gage design
  • Apply precision machining techniques to create tooling components with tight tolerances
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues as they arise

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working as a toolmaker/machinist
  • Demonstrated proficiency in grinding and holding tolerances within ±0.0005"
  • 3+ years of experience machining tool steels and steel alloys
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and GD&T specifications
  • Experience with manual measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges
  • Proven track record of producing precision parts that meet specifications consistently
  • Must be located within a 50-mile radius of Chardon, Ohio

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in toolmaking or precision machining
  • Advanced experience grinding tool steels to precise specifications
  • 3+ years of experience programming and operating CNC mills and lathes
  • Proficiency with Mastercam and SolidWorks
  • Experience working in ISO 9001:2015 or AS9100D certified environments
  • Background in lean manufacturing principles
  • Journeyman certification or technical degree in machining/manufacturing
  • Experience creating complex fixturing solutions for production environments

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal shavings
  • Position requires standing for up to 8 hours per shift and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Mandatory use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • May involve shift work or occasional overtime to meet production demands
  • Requires visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed inspections and operate precision measuring equipment
  • Environment includes standard industrial hazards requiring adherence to safety protocols
