  • Assist with instructor duties to support the program and the CCT department.
  • May perform other duties or assist during governor‑declared emergencies.

Overview

Virginia Western Community College is hiring part‑time Precision Machining Instructors in the School of Career and Corporate Training (CCT). The role requires teaching technical skills such as conventional machine operation, blueprint reading, precision measurement, CNC programming, and CAD/CAM system operation. Instructors support the program and department with classroom preparation and instructional tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and prepare technical instructional assignments in machining environments.
  • Deliver curriculum on conventional machine tool operation, blueprint reading/engineering drawings, precision measurement tools, machine set‑up, CNC lathes and mills, and CAD/CAM systems.
  • Assist with all instructor‑related duties to support the program and the CCT department.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned or assist during emergency declarations by the Governor.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of machining experience, including coursework in a community college or university setting.
  • Proficiency with CNC and G‑code programming; must complete all National Institute of Metalworking Skills Level 1 credentials within the first year of hire.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to write syllabi, exams, and develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Capacity to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Associate’s degree in a career and technical education field is preferred.
  • National Institute of Metalworking Skills credentials preferred.
  • Classroom machining instruction experience, especially in accelerated formats geared toward certification exam preparation.
  • Track record of high student credential outcomes and effective instruction in classroom and machine shop settings.
  • Expertise in machine set‑up, machining applications, programming with ProtoTrak, Haas, Mazak, and Fanuc controls and simulators, process planning, precision measurement, inspection, GD&T, metallurgy, cutting tool selection and assembly, machine maintenance, and safety.
