Job summary

The City of Tucson is seeking a Survey Instrument Technician to obtain, process, and analyze field survey data using electronic survey equipment and GPS. You will work under the Land Surveyor, performing instrument setup, data collection, and data quality checks in various environments.

Responsibilities include operating survey tools, maintaining gear, calculating coordinates, and coordinating with engineers and other professionals on project goals.

Qualifications

• Education: 6 months post high school (minimum).
• Experience: 1 year of relevant surveying experience.
• Equivalency: Any education/experience combination may substitute on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Operates surveying instruments to locate lines and points.
• Maintains instruments to keep them in good working order.
• Performs operator-level tasks in field operations.
• Calibrates and services survey equipment as needed.
• Records field notes and interprets maps and specifications.
• Calculates distances, angles, and coordinates for accuracy.
