Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking an Equipment Operator to safely operate excavators and related earthmoving equipment for utility construction and sitework projects. You will trench, move materials, and assist in pipe installations while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include daily equipment inspections, adherence to trench safety guidelines, and effective communication with the crew to ensure productivity and accuracy on site.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to follow instructions within a crew environment.
• Knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.
• OSHA certification preferred; valid driver's license and ability to tow small trailers optional.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, mini-excavators, loaders, and related earthmoving equipment for trenching, excavation, and backfill.
• Perform precise excavation around live utilities, maintaining safety and Miss Utility guidelines.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections and routine maintenance; report issues.
• Follow trench safety, shoring, and barricading standards at all times.
• Assist crew with trench preparation, pipe installation, backfill, and site cleanup.
• Communicate with spotters and crew using hand signals and radios for safe coordination.
• Load, unload, and position materials using proper rigging techniques.
• Document equipment uses, inspections, and fuel logs as required.
• Support general labor, excavation and other site tasks as assigned.
