Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking an Equipment Operator to safely and efficiently perform excavation and earthmoving tasks on utility construction sites. You will operate excavators and related equipment, coordinate with the crew, and follow Miss Utility and OSHA safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating excavation or heavy construction equipment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to follow instructions and work efficiently in a crew environment.
• Knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.
• OSHA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, loaders, and related earthmoving equipment for trenching and backfill.
• Perform precise excavation around utilities while following safety guidelines.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections and routine maintenance.
• Follow trench safety, shoring, and barricading standards.
• Assist the crew with trench preparation, pipe installation, and site cleanup.
• Document equipment uses, inspections, and fuel logs as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and comply with OSHA standards.
