Contract Industrial Tooling (C-I-T) in Richmond, IN, is seeking a hands-on CNC machinist responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills and lathes to tight tolerances. You will translate engineering intent into production parts and verify results.

You will plan machining steps, load material, monitor quality, perform first article inspections, and conduct preventive maintenance. The role requires precision, problem-solving, and adherence to safety and process procedures.

• Load material and run drilling, grooving, turning, and facing operations.
• Monitor deviations; troubleshoot; adjust offsets or reprogram as needed.
• Conduct first article and in-process inspections with micrometers and calipers.
• Perform preventive maintenance and initiate repairs as needed.

Job description

Own the cut. Control the outcome. You’ll take responsibility for converting engineering intent into production parts—programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC mills and lathes to tight tolerances. If you thrive on solving problems at the machine and verifying results with disciplined inspection, this role is for you.

Shifts

• First: Mon–Fri, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
• Second: Mon–Thu, 2:30 PM–1:00 AM

What you will do

• Plan machining steps from work orders, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
• Program CNC equipment: define zero/reference points; set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate dimensions via math/geometry/trigonometry; and validate with prove‑outs.
• Perform setups: install/adjust three‑ and four‑jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicate vises; tram heads.
• Load material and run operations including drilling, grooving, turning, and facing.
• Monitor for deviations; troubleshoot processes; adjust offsets or reprogram; sharpen/replace tooling to maintain specification.
• Conduct first article and in‑process inspections using micrometers, calipers, fixtures, and gauges; record results in production and quality logs.
• Perform preventive maintenance per OEM guidelines; troubleshoot malfunctions and initiate repair requests.
