Job description

Operating and setting up conventional, NC, and special purpose machines and machining centers to machine metal components.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Demonstrates a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and orderly work area
  • Follows safety regulations and actively contributes to work safety
  • Follows all standard work, control plans, processes and quality guidelines
  • Operates multiple machines and performs all Total Productive Environment (TPE) activities, including experience with automation (Robotics)
  • Verifies that machine is running at proper cycle time
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Diagnoses and rectifies normal problems on machines and verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
  • Responds with commitment and sensitivity toward satisfying the needs of internal and external customers
  • Promotes quality and continuous improvement philosophy
  • Evaluates situations objectively and demonstrates the ability to make timely decisions that positively affect work performance
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to complete tasks on time, with quality, and anticipates problem areas in advance
  • Applies creative approaches and ideas to solve problems while maximizing effective use of resources
  • Demonstrates flexibility in approach and ideas, supports changes in procedures, processes, technology, responsibilities, and assignments

  • Confers with and instructs other classifications in care and use of machines, equipment, and techniques required
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED; or 1–3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply logic and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
  • Physical Demands: regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: regular exposure to moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, or risk of electrical shock; noise level usually loud.
