Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Mount Vernon, Indiana is seeking a CNC Machinist for a 2nd shift in a low-volume, highly engineered shop.

You will set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, write programs, and ensure tolerances while collaborating with engineering. The role includes on-the-job training, overtime, shift premiums, and a $4,000 sign-on bonus; relocation assistance is available. The base salary starts around $78,042 per year, with total compensation reflecting market factors.

Qualifications

High school equivalency with a minimum of four years of relevant experience.
An AS in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent training plus two years of on-the-job experience.
Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges, levels, protractors.
Ability to maintain detailed records; ability to complete process documentation and other production records.
Ability to work any shift, to include nights and weekends.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC machine tools to perform milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and turning.
Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet specifications and customer requirements.
Maintain tight tolerances to ±.001” and 16 microfinish when necessary.
Write/edit programs using G and M coded controls (Siemens and Fanuc controls preferred).
Troubleshoot challenges with support of on-site engineering.
Routinely read and comprehend written instructions, procedures, prints, and bills of material.
Work in a team environment by assisting the CNC Programmer as necessary to develop and/or test run programs.
Use advanced mathematical skills to calculate proper speed and feed rates.
Operate crane or assist with the rigging and moving of parts.
Maintain clean work area and daily housekeeping duties.
Collaborate and communicate with opposite shift through face-to-face carryover and log books.
Work with tooling application engineers to devise optimum tooling design and practices.
Work in accordance with all applicable company procedures, policies and rules.
