Qualifications

• Associate degree in laboratory science or at least 60 semester hours including 24 hours in medical lab technology or science with chemistry/biology coursework.
• Strong communication with medical staff and clinicians is essential.
• Experience with histology processes and surgical specimens preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify specimen appropriateness, labeling, and data matching.
• Record gross descriptions and determine need for special stains.
• Use CoPath IS to accession specimens and order testing; compile processing logs.
• Prioritize workflow and communicate procedural concerns to leadership.
• Assist pathologists with intraoperative procedures and specimen triage.
• Develop proficiency in histology tasks and equipment operation.
• Assist training of residents and new technicians.
• Maintain processing room and ensure specimen integrity and quality.
• Collaborate with team to uphold Baystate Health standards.
