Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Precision Agriculture Specialist to join a technologically advanced farming operation in Welkom. The role focuses on integrating GPS, sensors, drones, and data analytics to enhance efficiency and sustainability across farming practices.

You will work with farm managers and agronomists to implement and manage these systems, optimizing water, fertilizer, and pesticide use while driving innovation in the Free State region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agribusiness, Geomatics, or a related technical field.
• Experience with precision agriculture technologies and software platforms.
• Proficiency in GIS software and data analysis tools.
• Understanding of crop production and soil science principles.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with farm equipment and software.

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage precision agriculture technologies, including GPS guidance systems, VRT applicators, and soil mapping equipment.
• Operate and maintain agricultural drones for crop monitoring, surveying, and data collection.
• Analyze data collected from sensors, drones, and farm machinery to provide actionable insights for crop management.
• Develop variable rate application plans for fertilizers, seeds, and crop protection products.
• Provide technical support and training to farm staff on the use of precision agriculture tools and software.
