About the Role

Our client, a prominent agricultural technology firm operating across various regions including Welkom, Free State , is seeking a highly skilled Precision Agriculture Specialist. This role is central to leveraging data analytics and advanced technologies to optimize farm management and enhance crop productivity. The specialist will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets from various sources, including satellite imagery, drone data, sensors, and farm machinery, to provide actionable insights for farmers. This is a remote position offering significant flexibility, allowing you to contribute to modernizing agriculture from anywhere. You will work with cutting-edge tools and innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and manage precision agriculture technologies and systems on client farms.
• Collect, process, and analyze diverse agricultural data sets, including geospatial data, yield maps, soil data, and weather information.
• Develop predictive models for crop yield, disease outbreaks, and optimal resource application (water, fertilizer, pesticides).
• Create detailed reports and visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations to farmers and stakeholders.
• Provide training and technical support to clients on the use of precision agriculture tools and software.
• Stay current with advancements in agricultural technology, data science, remote sensing, and IoT for agriculture.
• Collaborate with software developers and engineers to improve existing precision agriculture platforms and develop new features.
• Advise on best practices for data collection, management, and interpretation to ensure accuracy and reliability for farms in Welkom and beyond.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Data Science, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in precision agriculture, data analytics within the agricultural sector, or a similar role.
• Strong proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SAS) and GIS/remote sensing tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI).
• Experience with farm management information systems (FMIS) and data visualization platforms.
• Understanding of crop physiology, soil science, and agronomic principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with sensor technologies, IoT devices, and variable rate application technology is highly desirable.
