Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; data entry experience and six months in healthcare preferred; MS Word/Excel/Outlook skills preferred.
• Strong telephone and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Understanding of medical terminology and medical insurance precertification knowledge preferred.
• Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Reviews precertification requirements and submits for precertification for services; ensures timely processing.
• Reviews HIS authorization workqueues and verifies network status before procedures; notifies offices of out-of-network costs.
• Gathers additional clinical information from ordering providers to support precertification.
• Scans and updates patient records with authorization data and communicates with payors as needed.
• Identifies patients using three identifiers and avoids duplicate MRNs.
• Transcribes faxed documents into HIS and distributes to team members.
