Job summary

ActionPlas Group in Belpre, Ohio, is seeking a Pre-Process Engineer to translate CAD drawings and 3D models into optimized CNC programs for turning and 3,4,5 axis machining. You will use Fusion 360 and AlphaCam to define repeatable processes, setups, tooling strategies, and robot-loaded cells.

You will work with engineering, quality, and maintenance to improve manufacturing, ensure health and safety, and maintain documentation, with responsibilities including cycle-time reduction, workflow

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as CNC Programmer in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience setting up CNC centres and/or flatbed routers.
  • Proficiency with tooling, fixtures, feeds and speeds.

  • Work closely with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and quality standards.

Job Definition

The Pre-Process Engineer will be responsible for taking existing CAD drawings and 3D models and generating, optimising, and validating CNC programs to enable these parts to be manufactured using both turning and 3,4 and 5 axis machining centres. This role involves using simulation software (including Fusion 360 and Alpha Cam) to define repeatable machining processes, setups, tooling strategies, and work-holding methods for both fully automated robot loaded cells and standard CNC machining centres.

Responsibilities

  • Use simulation and first-off proofs to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes.
  • Define setups, tooling strategies, and work-holding methods.
  • Optimise cycle times and improve machine utilisation.
  • Maintain program version control and documentation integrity.
  • Prepare complete machining job packs, including routings, inspection requirements, and tooling lists.
  • Coordinate with Planning to confirm realistic scheduling and flag potential risks before release.

Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience as a CNC Programmer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience setting up CNC machining centres and/or Flatbed routers.
  • Good understanding of tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience using Fusion 360 or Alpha Cam software.
  • Experience with 4-axis and 5-axis machining.
  • Knowledge of robotic loading and unloading systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Experience working in high-volume automotive, aerospace, or precision engineering environments.
