Job description

A day in the life

You arrive on the floor with a plan: roll out a new CNC program you coded yesterday, validate cycle time targets from your latest study, and sit with Production to fine-tune tooling for a complex mill/lathe job. By lunch, you’ve published updated setup sheets and travelers, coached operators through a new machining procedure, and pushed a software update that streamlines data capture. In the afternoon, you wrap a cost analysis comparing actuals to your RFQ estimate, sync with Accounting, and document R&D progress before preparing for a Product Realization Review backup slot.

What you’ll do
  • Design, code, test, debug, document, and implement new manufacturing programs/technologies—and complex changes to existing ones.
  • Create CNC part programs with a CAD/CAM platform for lathes and mills; support machine setup, job debugging, and optimization.
  • Produce internal drawings in CAD to support tooling, fixturing, and operations.
  • Establish time standards for parts across the facility and conduct machine time studies.
  • Develop manufacturing methods that improve throughput and facility utilization.
  • Analyze end-user data needs and build user-focused solutions that integrate with current applications.
  • Coordinate specification reviews, sign-offs, and procedural updates for new programs/systems.
  • Lead implementation and training to support program/system rollouts.
  • Troubleshoot and guide resolution of complex operational issues and malfunctions.
  • Prepare cost analyses by capturing actual material, labor, and outside processing against estimates; partner with Accounting on tracking.
  • Develop cost estimates from customer RFQs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Create and maintain travelers, setup sheets, process logs, and other machining documentation.
  • Track all R&D activities and act as backup to the Sr. Manufacturing Engineer for Product Realization Reviews.
  • Collaborate with Production on tool testing and perishable tooling management.
  • Pitch in on additional tasks as needed; assist Sales with cultivating new customers and participate in meetings.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on machining experience.
  • Strong technical and computer proficiency; effective oral communication; collaborative working style across departments.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, organizational effectiveness, and project management skills.
