Job Goal
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
Performance Responsibilities
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district curriculum goals, establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media suited to the physical limitations and needs of students.
- Implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
- Diagnose learning challenges, seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow the SPS code of conduct and develop fair classroom behavior rules.
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and evaluate their performance.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth.
- Participate in the teacher evaluation process.
- Attend meetings and activities to promote communication and decision-making.
- Contribute to district and school decisions on budget, facilities, and curriculum.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
- Highly qualified with competency in the content area.
- Appropriate license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (e.g., Early Childhood: Teacher of Students With and Without Disabilities or PreK-2).
- Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; Master's Degree preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
