Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for each student assigned to the class.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher

WORK DAYS: 190

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred: Advanced degree(s).
  • Experience, Skill, and Certification: Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in the assigned teaching field, Elementary Education P-5 or Birth to Kindergarten.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Teaching Tasks

  1. Provides Instruction
    • Teaches at an appropriate instructional level
    • Provides content development
    • Builds for transfer
  2. Assesses and Encourages Student Progress
    • Promotes student engagement
    • Monitors student progress
    • Responds to both adequate and inadequate student progress
    • Supports students
  3. Manages the Learning Environment
    • Uses time efficiently
    • Maintains effective physical setting for instruction
    • Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom

Virtual Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Platform in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills
  • Uses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks
  • Participate in professional learning to enhance ability to provide engaging online instruction. Participate in required Professional Learning that leads to virtual teaching endorsement
  • Clearly articulate deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure coursework completion in a timely manner

General Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
    • Follow professional practices consistent with school and district policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues
      • Interact professionally with students and parents
      • Be available for conferences according to district policies
      • Facilitate home-school communication via conferences, calls, and written communications
      • Maintain confidentiality of students and their records
      • Work cooperatively with school staff and parents
    • Comply with all school, district, and state regulations and policies
      • Conduct classes at scheduled times
      • Enforce student conduct and discipline regulations
      • Be punctual
      • Provide materials for substitutes
      • Maintain accurate records and report promptly
      • Attend meetings and activities as required
      • Comply with employment conditions
    • Demonstrate professional teaching practices
      • Use correct language, both oral and written
      • Maintain up-to-date content knowledge
      • Implement curriculum effectively
      • Maintain lesson plans as required
      • Assign reasonable tasks and homework
    • Act professionally, ensuring school safety and order
      • Protect records, equipment, and facilities
      • Supervise students outside of class as needed
  2. Perform other duties as required, including content-area activities and coordination of support staff

Terms of Employment: Annual contract, 190 work days, salary based on certification level and experience.

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

Shared or substitutable responsibilities as defined by district policies. Accommodation requests will be reviewed individually.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

Primarily classroom-based activities involving standing, walking, bending, lifting, and communication tasks, with occasional student restraint or lifting requirements.
